Everyone Has A Story

With co-workers in the parking lot when it was still fun and games.

Stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for 6 hours and 45 minutes.

I left home Tuesday morning at 7 am and drove up my hill today at 12 pm....so happy to be home again. When I left home Tuesday, Birmingham was only supposed to get a dusting of snow at the best. The bulk of the front was supposed to sweep past south of us.  Well, the weatherman was wrong.  It began snowing around 10 am and by the time we were given the okay to close and leave for home at 11 am it was already too late.

I gave up trying to make it home 6 hours 45 minutes later. Thankfully, God was watching over me in my little Corolla.  We rolled along at speeds of 5 mph for the most part, only got stuck in a hairy spot once which I luckily got out of, drove on the wrong side of the divided highway for a stretch, spent one night at a local church that opened its doors to stranded motorists, was picked up yesterday by my BIL's co-worker in his 4 wheel drive vehicle and taken to my sister's home where I spent last night.

News photo of a local stretch of the Interstate.

Tons of people spend one or two nights at their workplaces.  Children had to stay at school with their teachers.  Some people were stranded in their cars and many people had to abandon their cars and walk.  My sister stayed one night with one of her daughter's friends family. My BIL, SIL and brother spent the night at their respective workplaces. My niece was one of the lucky ones who was able to get a hotel room with a co-worker. My son-in-law spent one night at work, but on the way home yesterday spun out and smashed the car he was driving.  Happily, he was not hurt.

Everyone has a story.  Mine was a good one. Along the way I met some very nice people, was fed delicious food by the church and my sister, had a nice long visit with sis, BIL and niece and made it home today over some still icy roads....so happy to be here!

Snow that falls fast and ices over fast is not fun in Alabama!  From now on, snow is only allowed to fall overnight once everyone is home safe and sound.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

It doesn't look like this outside, but Baby, it is cold!

Today I'm staying inside cooking Tomato Bisque and looking forward to watching Season 4 of Downton Abbey tonight.
