Sips n Strokes

Picture this: a big room, tables and tables of canvas and paints, lots of happy women sipping glasses of their favorite beverage while learning how to paint a picture of their choice, now there is a great concept for a booming business. A local woman developed this concept and now she is marketing franchises for the business. There are four shops locally, each featuring a different painting nightly.

Tonight I went with a close friend and a group of her friends. My friend didn't think blue would match her decor so she changed up her color scheme to match her home. Check out our work:

Everyone paints the same thing, but each painting is individual. Here is mine. I am going to work on my orchids some more. I'm not completely happy with them.

This is my second time. Our first painting was of a Tuscan landscape. In this photo you can see how engrossed in the task everyone was:

I love to see how varied each person's work is from the next.

At the end of the evening everyone is relaxed and happy. Spending a few hours being creative is better than a bottle of Prozac if you ask me. Here we are with our masterpieces.

Perhaps a Sips n Strokes will open near you soon. If it does I hope you will make reservations, take lots of friends and have a ball painting something fun.

  1. That's a great idea. And you ladies have done a wonderful job.

My mother started painting when she was in her 60s, when her own mother's health was failing. It was a great means of relaxation and escape for her. After a few obligatory designs that every one did together, she branched out to find her own style. And she was GOOD! Your post reminds me of that time. Thanks for that. :)

  3. What a fun concept! I love that you used so much purple in your landscape. That made the painting really stand out and drew my eye to yours immediately...:-)

  4. Steviewren, this is the best idea I've heard all day...all week...all year?!

I would LOVE to do this....

Your paintings are so beautiful, so artistic. IT's fascinating to see what everyone sees through their vision and brush...

I really enjoyed this post, thank you!

  6. This looks like so much fun! The great thing about it is that it gets rid of all anxiety about trying to learn to paint because you are in a mixed talent environment so you can feel encouraged, and not judged. I bet a few will go on to paint at home and make it a new and fulfilling hobby.

I wish there were a place like this in my area! I'll keep checking. Thanks!

  9. That looks like a fun way to spend an evening. Meeting new people that you have something in common with. I hope you share a picture of your paintings when they find their homes. They are both lovely, but I really like the orchids. I am so into flowers right now!

I'm glad you stopped by and I look forward to your comments. As Dr. Fraser Crane would say, "Hello, I'm listening."
