I've Had Company!

Two of my granddaughters spent the weekend with me. Here is a little look at what we did.

Went to see this movie based on the American Girl doll and book series. The cast was great. Little girls brought their dolls with them. My daughter went with us. The both of us cried. (we're saps) The movie held my granddaughter's interest throughout. (and that isn't easy) Movie review in one word....delightful.

In line at the theater.

After the movie they had to get candy from the bank of .25 machines. Then they were ready to ham it up for the camera!

Coming attractions:

Then it was back home to try and finish our game of LIFE.

And play the pipe...until Gramma's nerves couldn't take it anymore!

Can you tell this one is a little mischievous? Well, both are actually.

After baths on Saturday night the girls had me roll their hair. I knew I should have taken pictures but I WAS SO TIRED by that time. We played Go Fishing, ate pizza and watched Night At The Museum. Sunday morning we made homemade blueberry muffins and read the funny papers.

Uncle TJ came over around 11:30. Whoopee, someone to fight with!

Don't tell but they almost took him down. Those are two tough girls!

They spent a lot of time doing this....surfing down the stairs on a baby bed mattress.

None of the grands would know about this old family tradition if this big stinker hadn't shown them how it should be done!

When we moved into this house this BIG kid was three years old. There were only 3 bedrooms here at the time (ex later built 2 more bedrooms downstairs) so baby boy didn't have a room of his own. He had used the baby bed up until the move. We got rid of the bed, but kept the baby mattress under a bed by day and at night he would pull it out and sleep in which ever room he chose. And that is the story of how his 2 older brothers devised this game......stair surfing.

Very cute smallish little boy grows into 6 foot 3 (or more) very BIG man who still loves to stair surf.

Ahhhhh, It drives me nuts!!!

While waiting for their other grandmother to come pick them up for a night at her house, we played one more game of cards.

Can I just say, I need a nap!

Happy Sunday afternoon!

  1. Those kidlets are adorable! It looks like you had a wonderful, though tiring weekend. I'm envious.. I'm still a fair ways off from grandchildren (hopefully!). ;) Great photos and account of your time together. :)

  3. When we had kids, we had other work to do and the kids had to find fun by themselves at times! Then comes the grandchildren....24/7 fun a grandma's! As Bill Cosby told his children about his parents...."those aren't the people who raised me!"

The crib mattress stair surfing is new to me...too bad I'm now too old for it...oh well...

Sounds like you had a happy fun-filled weekend....thanks for sharing it with us...

  5. I suppose that if I were ever to pay a visit to your house I would be tempted, myself, to stair surf. Looks like fun!

What a special weekend with two beautiful little girls! You are just the type of grandmother that every little girl would cherish!

    Rest well tonight!

  6. What a wondeful weekend. I am tired and I am sure I did not do half as much. Your grandchildren are very cute! It looks they had a great time. I would like to see that movie, both my girls had the American Girl Dolls and books. Well, if it too hot this week a movie might be nice.

  8. It looks like you had a great weekend with the girls. I think I would like to try the stair surfing, but I'm sure a broken bone would come along with it. We saw Wall-E, but plan on seeing your movie next weekend. Your girls are very cute!

  9. Hey Stevie, it's another meme...want to play some tag? You're it!!

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your Summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.

  11. Oh, Uncle TJ and his scary antics! My three big ones love this little activity he taught them :-) Did anyone mention the little GLASS window at floor level at the bottom of the stairs?! Oh, well, so far no one's been seriously hurt - just good times with Teej!

Beth, I know, I know...that window! At least there is the big ledge to bang into first before flying into the window!

  15. I read this yesterday, but I was so in a muddle trying to pick award recipients out of the many deserving blogs I couldn't comment .....You are so lucky to be able to spend such wonderful quality time with your adorable grand daughters! My daughter had an "American Girl" doll too, and I loved how they had the story books to go along with them. Did you know they have a big "American Girl" store on 5th Ave in NYC and the girls can have tea there? Big $ of course! LOL!

I love the stair surfing idea! Saves the bottom from doing it free form! :-)

  17. Thanks everyone. Your sweet comments have made me feel better because besides doing all this fun stuff I also had several breakdowns. Like at 11:30 at night and no one is going to sleep, etc.... But we did have fun. I don't get to spend as much time with them as I wish I could. They live almost 2 hours away. It is a far drive to go get them on a Friday after work, spend Saturday together and take them home again on Sunday and be ready to start the work week all over again on Monday bright and early. I am more of the hermit type than the people person type so I crave hours of down time...This is a problem. So I end up feeling bad for not making a bigger effort. These years will pass and I won't get these chances again. It is frustrating.

I'm glad you stopped by and I look forward to your comments. As Dr. Fraser Crane would say, "Hello, I'm listening."
