See The Finished Products

It took me a few hours to decide how to make them, but I think the aprons turned out cute.

The main body of the apron is made from a dish towel. I used fabric that my daughter picked up at Ikea as well as cotton quilting fabric for the trim at the bottom, the waistband, pocket and ties. I used the whole length of the dishtowel, but cut about 6" off the width since the girls aren't very tall. Two are made with the towel as the widest portion, but the one that used the solid orange towel is made using more Ikea fabric and only 6" of the towel. So there is enough of the cut up towels left to make 3 more if I want too.

I embellished 2 of them with ribbon and rick rack and I'm thinking of adding some colorful buttons for fun.

Now I'm off to my craft room again to see if I can't keep this creative/productive thing going!

Hope you are having a peaceful Sunday.

p.s. We postponed seeing the play until next weekend when another friend who wants to see it will be able to join us. I heard from another friend who did attend that it was quite good .

  2. These are so cute! You are definitely a talented seamstress. I love how you made them having the same materials, but a different twist. Very, very cute. Can't wait to see them modeling them! I'm anxious to hear about you guys cooking together.

  3. The aprons are BEAUTIFUL! They are so imaginative and wonderful. Good job! Your grandchildren will just love them. Rick rack! You can still buy rick rack! Most of my childhood clothes had rick rack on them. With "twirley" skirts. My sister, mom and I would twirl in our new matching skirts.

  4. Thanks for the compliments. I like them too. I won't see the girls until the end of the summer. We are meeting at the beach to vacation together. They cook a lot with their mother. I am hoping that they can enjoy cooking or crafting in them. Or they can use them for playing house.

I will be making 2 more for my granddaughters who spent last weekend with me.

  12. They are sooooo cute. The colors are fantastic. I love the idea of using a dish towel. Are you planning to do a little baking with the girls?
I hope a few more creative ideas came out of the craft room. Looking forward to seeing them.

  13. Such cute aprons! Your grand daughters will love them!

I think the one and only thing I ever sewed from scratch was an apron when I was in the girl scouts and I wanted a sewing badge. My Mom did not have a machine, so I had to sew it all by hand and it took forever. Now I wish I learned how to sew!

The play looks very interesting -- it's nice to go with a few friends and then you can discuss it over coffee afterwards.

  14. You are quite right; they are cuteness personified. I love the old fashioned look of rickrack....my mother once got a hold of what seemed like "a life time supply of yellow rickrack" and its still around...I think since the 1970's..!

Your creativity extends to sewing too, I see....
