Holiday Snaps

One Sunday afternoon during my recent trip to Texas, one of the grands and I went on a photo taking outing. Georgetown, known for its fine Victorian commercial architecture, is not far from their home. It is the county seat of Williamson County. The town's commercial center is laid out as a square of buildings with the courthouse in the middle. The San Gabriel river runs through the city just blocks from the square. Georgetown is also home to Southwestern University, which was founded in 1840 and is the state's oldest university.

EG was my companion and was sweetly willing to wander with her crazy picture taking Gramma.

She amused herself by finding all sorts of sidewalk treasures.

I amused myself by taking photos of treasure of this kind.

I love it that this old movie palace has found a new life as a local community theater.

On our way into town, we drove by the San Gabriel Motor Court. I had to turn around and take a couple of photos. It is just the sort of retro place that would be a fun overnight spot to spend the night. The river is just steps away.

I hope you've enjoyed taking this little glimpse into Georgetown with me.

Be sure to pop over and see Jean's Holiday Snaps today too!

  2. Oh I did indeed Steviewren. The name Georgetown simply resonates with history! I love the rusty iron staircase and the glimpse of wonderful architraving and mouldings. Georgetown looks a fascinating city. I have a friend who lives in Houston so maybe one day ... love your collage and your travelling companion is a sweetie!

  3. I can see that you did have a good time. It is a beautiful place as looking through your lens. That old stairway is pretty too. They don't make them like that any more.

  14. What a lovely little companion you had! I love the photo second from the bottom - that's my kind of office. (Thank you for asking after my mother. Unfortunately, she ended back in the hospital in worse shape than the first time; had emergency surgery wherein we almost lost her; and is not recovering as the doc predicted. Currently she is in rehab with double vision and short term memory loss, among other woes. But we are seeing progress. Thanks for asking!)

  16. I love the pictures, thanks for sharing them. You have a great eye for photography. Do they have a stop light? It looks rural. Your Texas grandkids must love spending time with "Crafty Grandma". I am looking forward to seeing your watercolor.
