For everyone who has asked, me and my loved ones are okay. I'm sad that I'm not able to say that about so many others in our state.
I haven't been able to speak with my son in Huntsville, but my ex says he texted with him last night after the storm had passed. I suppose their cells have lost their charge and there are wide-spead power outages and power lines down there according to the news so the landline isn't working.
For the first time in my life, I actually got into the closet under the basement stairs...instead of just going down into the basement. The storm tore a wide swath of destruction all the way from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham and points east of me. It seems like it wasn't on the ground out my way, but did touch down further northeast of me again. They say it was probably 1 to 1 1/2 miles wide.
Please keep Alabama in your prayers.
update....my son just called from Madison. Can you say RELIEF! If they can get the gas they will be driving to Birmingham later today to stay with either me or the ex.
I am happy that you and your family are okay! My thoughts are with all families affected by yesterday's tornado.
ReplyDeleteWhen I turned on the computer this morning it was the first time I read of the devastating news happening in Alabama...my first thought was of my blogging friends who live there and I am so happy to read that you and your family escaped any injury. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you are in the birmingham area. So glad to hear you are Ok and that your son is OK. That is so scarey. What a horrible day and night for the state. I can't believe so many lives lost in Alabama alone. Prayers for those affected.

I was wondering about you and yours Stevie. I am so glad to hear all is well and good with you. You can bet that You and your area will be in my prayers. What I have seen on the news has been horrible. I can imagine what it is like because my Dad lost his home and a neighbor their life in a tornado just 6 years ago. Something one doesn't forget.
ReplyDeleteI am very glad that you and yours are safe.
ReplyDeleteThe photos of Tuscaloosa are shocking, I googled to see just how close you were to the destruction. Glad you are safe, Stephanie.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you. My parents, in Cahaba Heights, lost eight trees -- 2 are on the house. It could've been much worse for them.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you are okay! And I know it must have been a tense time while you waited to hear about your son.
ReplyDeleteTornados have always been a great fear of mine having grown up in Iowa which is in Tornado Alley. I always worry about my daughter and her family who still live there. Thank goodness for a sound, dry basement to go to. We went to our basement last night too when a tornado warning was issued. No damage here in our county... so glad you are safe as well as your son. How frightening for you.

praise god that tyou and your family are all ok. this weather pattern is very scary and i pray that it all passes quickly. i was in a tornado the summer of 1972. it tore thru the woods that my parents live in while my folks, baby brother, 3 cousins and myself were all in the house. 27 trees were knocked down in the woods around the house but the house and all of us were spared. i have tremendous respect for tornadoes and the damage they can do.
ReplyDeleteSteph, in recent years there have been lots of terrible natural disasters around the world, and I think that your tornadoes match any of them. I am very glad that you and yours are safe, and greatly hope that you stay safe. - Dave
ReplyDeleteSO good to know he is okay ... we saw the horrific destruction on the news last nite and I cried .. people who had so little before now have nothing, family and friends killed .. its just awful ... again so glad you and yours are okay.

I am truly sorry dear friend about your ordeals. The news here were full of the pictures showing the immense devastation. I have lived through two hurricanes, thus I can relate to the fear one feels when nature's forces are unleashed...
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you and your loved ones are fine.
xoxo
Catching up here, Stevie. Keeping you and yours in my prayers. x
