Old Man Winter Sends Some snow This Way

Here in the South, a little snow goes a long way. A little snow is an excuse to close businesses and schools. A little snow means a hurried trip to the grocery store and a long wait in line.

1. leaving work in the snow, 2. at work not long after it started snowing, 3. snow by the road on the way home, 4. the view from my front porch, 5. snowy urn, 6. snow flower , 7. wet, wet snow, 8. snow on the roof, 9. snowflakes on my nose and eyelashes...man they were wet

A little snow means a lot of fun.

Snow Update:

The snow is glorious in the sunshine this morning. It sounds like spring outside. There are children playing and birds are singing. This is just what we've needed...glorious sunshine! Of course there are also the sounds of water dripping....the snow will be mostly gone by this evening probably.

I couldn't stay out long. I didn't dress for the weather.

Dein ist Mein Herz

I thought this card would be appropriate for a Valentine's Day Postcard Friendship Friday entry, since the front declares "You are my Heart."

Maybe our hostess, The French Factrice, with the mostest will translate the message for us. All I know is was written to Joseph who lived in Munich in October of 1917.

Happy Valentine's my postcardy friends!

Nice Spaces

I've been doing a lot of browsing lately looking for creative inspiration. Apartment Therapy is a great site to find various design sensibilities.

How would you like to have a little book nook like this?

This kitchen feels cozy to me...."stay and cook" it whispers.

Yes, I know the colors are a bit intense, but they make me think warmth, tropical, Matisse and I like that.

I'm always attracted to collections. And faces.

And numbers.

This bench fascinates me. It looks like it was built from 50s style kitchen trim. You know the stuff that would have been over the doors and under the cabinets. I love it.

I lust for a huge wall over my work area to pin up any and everything that might visually inspire me. Alas, the only walls that would work are across the room and I'm too nearsighted to be inspired by any thing hanging that far away.

I adore a light filled space.

Something about this bedroom says "you can relax here."

So, what inspires you? What would your dream spaces look like? If you're like me and love looking for decorating inspiration and have nothing else to do on these dismal, snowy, gray days of winter then please put together a dream house tour on your blog and invite me over for more decorating inspiration. Show us what you like and why.

Adorable

My Corner of the World

This is where I Polly wolly doodle all the day.

Speaking of Polly Wolly Doodle....do you remember the song or are you so young that you have no idea what I'm talking about? As my children were growing up and now my grandchildren, I've noticed that they no longer learn the old elementary music class staples.

Songs like:

Mary Had a Little Lamb
You Are My Sunshine
The Farmer in the Dell
Oh, Susanna
Bingo (was his name O)
Ring Around the Rosies
Hickory Dickory Dock
If You're Happy and You Know It
Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush

I remember singing Home On the Range, I've Been Working on the Railroad, Shenandoah, The Streets of Laredo, Billy Boy, Dixie, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, The Marine's Hymn, America The Beautiful and The Battle Hymn of the Republic as well as the National Anthem twice a week in music class all through my elementary years.

My mother taught all my children a nonsense song her older brother made up when he was a teenager. The story goes that the family was driving to Florida for the annual family vacation. The kids were bored as all kids get on long road trips. There was one apple and five children. It was offered to the one who made up the best song. My uncle won. His song is meant to be sung to the tune of Turkey in the Straw. It goes something like this....Hummm da duh ve vada moon da duh a da duh hip pat tata da duh moon ..... well you get the point you sing it fast. It has always been a tongue twister for me. My kids and now my grandkids can sing it better than I've ever been able too.

The point of this rambling rant about folk songs is that I hope they don't die out with our generation. They are a wonderful reminder of the musical history of this country as well as just being fun to sing. So sing one of these tunes to a little one in your life this week. Pass them on.

(I feel like a granny saying "I hope this music doesn't die out with our generation." It is scary to realize that I am old enough to start thinking thoughts like this. Yikes!)

Easy, Crunchy, Bite-Size

A friend recently gave me this recipe for munchies, which is great for parties or snacks. It was easy and quick to put together and cook time is only 15 minutes.

1 Box Oyster Crackers
1 Bag Pizza Flavored Goldfish
1 Pkg of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix
12 Shakes of Garlic Powder
6 Shakes of Dill Weed
1/2 Cup of Olive Oil

Mix well. Bake 15 minutes at 250 degrees. Stir once.

Since I like a little heat I added a couple of shakes of Cayenne Pepper.

Eat and enjoy.

Party Time

Time really flies. It seems like it was just yesterday that my 8th grandchild was born.

And yet this past week, it was already time to celebrated his first birthday.

Mommy went all out to create him a "little prince" birthday cake. There was yummy moist carrot cake on the inside and sweet cream cheese icing outside. The guests also enjoyed hot dips and chicken salad sandwiches.

He wasn't sure why everyone was standing around watching him and taking so many photos.

It took a few minutes for him to dig in.

But he had no trouble understanding what to do with his presents.

He presented his parents with his own birthday surprise last week. He officially started walking. He's a little man now for sure. Happy Birthday Elijah!

Postcards and Doodles

Postcards:

What's pink and red and high flying?

A Chinese postcard of the Beijing airport apparently.

Doodles:

What's purple and green and pretty sketchy?

More office doodles, of course!

What do postcards and doodles have to do with each other?

Duh, nothing dude!
