Back to the Future

This week I am traveling back into the not so distant past to celebrate Postcard Friendship Friday, back to June 21st, 2003. On that particular Saturday night, a prince was celebrating his 21st birthday with a big "Out of Africa" themed bash. While he celebrated royally, I recuperated from a busy day, in a not so distance hotel room.

While visiting London, I mailed a postcard a day to my youngest two children. Both were at home in Alabama working at the same summer camp . I sent postcards to both of them everyday for two reasons....one because I love them and two because it was a camp rule that they had to get up and sing at lunch in order to receive their mail. And man did they have to sing a lot! This is the postcard I wrote to my daughter on that June Saturday night.

  1. Prince William is so handsome. I can't believe that camp rule about singing for your mail..lol

I still send postcards to my children when I am away on a trip and they think it is funny --I guess they think I should be texting them instead.

  3. That was the party that was gatecrashed by a comedian, much to the fury of some and embarrassment of others. I hadn't realised it was so long ago.

  14. Hello
    I landed here via Carol's
    Writer's porch.
This man certainly has his mother's "look" that captured so many hearts. Voluntarily I'd add.

  15. I sang one time for a quirky guy in an antique shop for a 15% discount. The other shoppers thought it was a little odd. And it was.

  18. I saw Prince William's cute face on my blog follower and just had to come by and say "Hi".

Silly me, I forgot all about it being PFF. Been busier than a one-armed paper-hanger this week.

  20. and he's visiting the US this week, too. How fun that you were there (or nearby) when he had his bday party.

My mother cheated - she wrote out all the postcards she wanted to send all on the same day. then mailed them out each day. She didn't fool me lol

  24. I've heard of singing for your supper, but singing for your mail?

The prince looks so good in this shot, the best of Britain if I do say so myself. How enchanting that you were on hand to celebrate his very special coming of age birthday, as it were.

A very special postcard indeed. Hang onto that one!

  25. Such a mean mom! The kids could have taken the opportunity to learn patience by letting the mail accumulate for a week. But I'm sure the desire to read their mail was overwhelming.
