I'm happy to be back online in time to celebrate another PFF! A few months ago our hostess, Marie from Cpaphil Vintage Postcards, posted this picture of a pillow she bought. As soon as I saw it I thought "I can do that!" And here it is:
I used a scan of a postcard my Granddaddy sent my Bigmother, my mother's parents, when they were dating in December of 1917. He writes "Here's hoping for you the happiest of all Happy Christmases you ever had, and then some. Clarence" Notice her address. It is just her name and the town she lived in. Didn't my granddaddy have beautiful handwriting. If you look closely at the top of the card you will see my Bigmother's handwriting where she wrote in ballpoint pen many years later "His 1st Xmas to me."
I made the pillow as a Mother's Day gift for my mother. She loved it.
wow, that's lovely!! :) I *do* actually sleep with my postcards too, but a postcard pillow sounds so comforting!
ReplyDeleteA postcard pillow! that's the first time I have seen one.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely mother's day gift,
thank you for sharing , happy PFF day!
Ah this is so lovely and sentimental! It speaks volumes to my romantic mindset! What a lovely gift as well.
ReplyDeleteYes, his handwriting is beautiful; I find it so personal to see someone writing cards or letters. Particularly today in the age of electronic correspondance.
I'm sure she did love it! A wonderful gift, and a great entry for this week's Postcard Friendship Friday!
ReplyDeleteWas the scan reproduced onto fabric? How was that done?
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhh! My dear Stevie you are amazing! I'm such a nut..my heart is beating a mile a minute with excitement. It's such a lovely tribute to your Grandfather. I'm tearing up here..... It's on such a jazzy pillow too:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to enjoy an heirloom piece of mail.
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC Idea. I'm going to try something like that for my parents anniversary next year. Thanks for the great post.
ReplyDeleteWhat a special and thoughtful gift, I've never seen anything like it! You're right the script is beautiful... I wonder if he was an artist like you?
ReplyDeleteMG-My Granddaddy published a weekly newspaper for many years. He was a wonderful newspaperman.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you who wondered how I made it, craft stores like Michaels sell paper backed muslin that is made to run through your inkjet printer. You peel the backing off and voila you have a printed piece of cloth. The ink is heat set with your iron. Easy peesy!
Now that's a special Mother's Day gift ... and what a sensational idea .. I saw Marie's pillow and thought 'where can I buy that' .. LOL.. so not creative
ReplyDeleteI love it, you did a beautiful job. How happy your mother must of been to receive such a lovely Mother's Day present. That is neat about the address, ah the good old days. But I must admit I like living in the 2009.
