Siblings

Sometimes, sibling rivalry is made of the sinister machinations of a jealous spirit. Sometimes, it is the serious longing to be not considered one of a group but one alone, someone special in their own right. Sometimes, it is the stuff of simple misunderstanding of motive or action.

Whatever the cause for any lingering division by adulthood, the truth is siblings understand things that no friend ever will. They know things about us that we don't want anyone else to know. Family dynamics are curious things aren't they?

a

There was more than a fair amount of animosity between these two boys when they were growing up. I am happy to say they have resolved their differences and like each other now....my two oldest sons.

To the outside world we all grow old, but not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time. -Clara Ortega

PS. These great photos are from my stash of 'borrowed' pictures from the World Wide Web of Delightful Images. This excludes the last 2 cuties.

  1. My sister is 10 years older than I. We didn't rival. She was always the elder. Now we seem to be the same age. :)

  6. These are great pictures, especially the last two. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Avery and me. I have had to had my girlfriends as my sisters. I realize it's much different, but I love them lots.

  8. Awwwwe, your boys were adorable! I can totally relate to this post. My sister and I are 6 years apart and it wasn't until I was in my early 30's that we finally connected. When I was little, I was just in the way but now we share the same friends, etc. It's been a fun time these past 10 years!

  15. We don't actually get along. We live 1000 miles apart so it just appears that way.

  18. My three sons were always close, though there was an eleven year difference between my oldest and the next one. I was 38 and 40 when I had number two and three
( WHAT WAS I THINKING!! ). I had extensive back surgery when the youngest was only a year old - and was disabled for a year and a half. My husband left and, if it hadn't been for my oldest son, I don't know how I would have survived. Though an abundance of testosterone prevailed in the household, these boys were wonderful - and they are still devoted to each other!

  20. So sweet! Your little boys are darling. Mine were so different but really good friends. Still are. And my sister and me have such a funny relationship. It is really special having siblings. But sometimes I'm thankful my husband was an only!
