Whatever the cause for any lingering division by adulthood, the truth is siblings understand things that no friend ever will. They know things about us that we don't want anyone else to know. Family dynamics are curious things aren't they?
There was more than a fair amount of animosity between these two boys when they were growing up. I am happy to say they have resolved their differences and like each other now....my two oldest sons.
To the outside world we all grow old, but not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time. -Clara Ortega
PS. These great photos are from my stash of 'borrowed' pictures from the World Wide Web of Delightful Images. This excludes the last 2 cuties.
My sister is 10 years older than I. We didn't rival. She was always the elder. Now we seem to be the same age. :)

ReplyDeleteI love that.
(your boys were, and still are, adorable!)
Wow...I loved this! So very true! There is a connection that cannot be replaced by any other person. Lovely post, Stevie! And I recognized your boys immediately..especially that younger one...looks like you!
ReplyDeleteI'm the oldest so I didn't feel as much rivalry I guess as my siblings did...now we're all do very close.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with the little chubby curly top there on the right...(grew up into a strapping handsome husband!!)
ReplyDeleteOooooh, I hope someday we'll have a SIBLING in this house that looks like him! :-) (and no, that is NOT an announcement or a plan! :-)
These are great pictures, especially the last two. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Avery and me. I have had to had my girlfriends as my sisters. I realize it's much different, but I love them lots.
ReplyDeleteWhat adorable boys now men! Age does help resolve rivalry in most cases.
ReplyDeleteAwwwwe, your boys were adorable! I can totally relate to this post. My sister and I are 6 years apart and it wasn't until I was in my early 30's that we finally connected. When I was little, I was just in the way but now we share the same friends, etc. It's been a fun time these past 10 years!
ReplyDeleteToo true...siblings have something special betwwen them.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are SO cute in that picture!

Beautiful pictures and a beautiful sentiments. I feel a strong bond to my sister, even though we are worlds apart, literary, both when it comes to lifestyle and geography.
ReplyDeleteLove your two cute boys!;)
xoxo
very touching post, stevie! i have one sister and 3 brothers and have always gotten along wonderfully with all of them but my sister. we fought constantly as children but thankfully are very close today.
ReplyDeleteare you the younger of the 2 girls in the next to the last photo?
What a tender post. I think I'll call my sister today. :)
ReplyDeleteYour boys were just adorable.
Julie, that picture is just a random family group I came across on the web. Aren't they cute?
ReplyDeletethe next to last photo, the girl with the bangs in the middle, it could be me .. really ... its not but it looks like me so much its weird
ReplyDeleteWe don't actually get along. We live 1000 miles apart so it just appears that way.
ReplyDelete:-)

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and true observation. Something I'd never thought about...
Brandon, I laughed out loud when I read your comment...I hope you were kidding!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Mom
My three sons were always close, though there was an eleven year difference between my oldest and the next one. I was 38 and 40 when I had number two and three
ReplyDelete( WHAT WAS I THINKING!! ). I had extensive back surgery when the youngest was only a year old - and was disabled for a year and a half. My husband left and, if it hadn't been for my oldest son, I don't know how I would have survived. Though an abundance of testosterone prevailed in the household, these boys were wonderful - and they are still devoted to each other!
This is absolutely heart tugging...I hope my kids are great friends and will support each other as adults like they do not as children!
ReplyDeleteYour "little" boys are adorable!!!! Time goes by so fast!
So sweet! Your little boys are darling. Mine were so different but really good friends. Still are. And my sister and me have such a funny relationship. It is really special having siblings. But sometimes I'm thankful my husband was an only!
ReplyDeleteI just adore this post stevie...my sister is only 18 months older than me but has always taken care of me it seems...altho we have learned we cannot live in the same house we are deeply connected. Now I have two daughters and see a wonderful relationship between them...Sisterhood is so strong a bond...
