On the Wagon

I'm trying to give this up. Forgive me if I seem a little grumpy.

I'm hoping to feel better. I'll let you know if it works.

  1. Good for you! Water is a much better choice.

  2. It IS worth it. I gave it up a few years back. I was suffering from connective tissue problems for the longest time and decided to give up the aspartame. It truly took months but it made a huge difference.

After a while, I started doubting that it was the aspartame and slowly got back into drinking my diet Coke. After a couple of months the problems returned. After the second and final quit, I was good again about 3 or 4 months later. And still am.

Good luck. That stuff can not be good for you.

  4. I drink a cocktail made of a splash of orange juice and water, over ice. I drink it through a straw, and I can drink a TON of it.

It's just as good with a splash of cranberry juice instead.

This has made me drink so much water! I like ice, I like straws, and I need a little flavor for excitement, but I like just a little sweetness, not too much like it would be if I drank just juice.

Of course if it's the caffeine you liked and are kicking, that is an entirely different matter. Take Excedrin for the headaches (but only for a couple of days because Excedrin is hard on your stomach).

  5. Can't be good for you so good luck with your withdrawal. I have gone off and on again. I can't really tell the difference. Maybe because I don't drink much of it anyway.

  9. Good for you. I've never been a soda drinker, thankfully...I wish I liked water, though. I have kidney stones and need to drink copious amounts of the stuff but I don't love it. It's tolerable with a bit of lemon or lime so that's how I get my quota down!

  11. Most excellent ... drink water .. or have a cup of coffee but avoid carbonated drinks w/faux sweeteners! Did you know they increase your thirst? Yup.

  12. Diet Coke is a favorite of mine, too. I am not sure I could give it up either. A friend of mine wanted to quit Pepsi so she bought the small cans and had one for the day. She did not want to quit cold turkey, just slowly. Good luck to you. I hope you feel better soon!

  13. I only drink one a day, but I'd really miss that one! I applaud you though!! Is it the caffeine you are turning away from?

  15. I think the caffeine may be contributing to a rapid heartbeat. The aspartame is supposed to be bad for your memory and mine isn't what it used to be. And I just read that there is some concern that the caramel coloring in colas may contribute to metabolic problems and weight gain. I'm achy all the time. My heart races too much. I'm 55 and I'm falling apart. I feel old before my time.

So I'm trying to see what I can do about it. I'm trying to eat better as well. I'm an addict though. I've tried to quit before but this time I'm determined to stay off long enough to really see if it makes a difference.

  16. Good girl! Pray through the withdrawls my friend but seriously you'll feel sooooo much better in a few weeks. I used to drink diet pepsi for years but the aspartame wad killing me. Now I'm a tea drinker and there are many wonderful choices that I change up all the time. Your body will thank you!

I'm glad you stopped by and I look forward to your comments. As Dr. Fraser Crane would say, "Hello, I'm listening."
