Day Three

It's the end of day three and I still like it, which is great since it's this job or bust. I wish I could sit and chit-chat all night, but I've got to wash underwear. The clothes basket has reached critical mass.

That is good news, about the job. The laundry issue not so much! I think it was you who watched Masterpiece Theatre, are you watching the new series?

I will dread it when I have to move from my home the end of March. I'm afraid I'll just be renting a room and will have to give up my washer and dryer. I cannot imagine having to go to a laundromat after forty years!

Who Said It First?

The phrase "little birdie told me so" may find it's origins in this Bible verse. "Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say" (Ecclesiastes 10:20). The earliest form of the saying was included in John Heywood's collection of proverbs (1546). In 1583, Brian Melbancke wrote in 'Philotimus'" 'I had a little bird, that brought me newes of it.' In 1711, in 'Letter to Stella,' Jonathan Swift came close to the current version: 'I heard a little bird say so.'
