Just a Day in the Life

Their sled makes the sound of ice crunching, as the little boys across the street ride it down the hill in front of their house.

The phone rings. I talk to Rachel awhile.

I hear the neighbor boys yelling and crying.

I look out the window to see them fighting a big black dog who is determined to steal their sled. One brother runs to tell Mom, while the other loses the battle with the dog.

Dog walks proudly down the street carrying the purple saucer sled in his mouth.

Mom looks out door as boys tell her all about dog.

Door closes behind boys. Apparently, Mom has told them to go get sled back from irrant dog.

Slowly, they walk through snow covered yards.

Big black dog wanders up onto neighboring porch sans sled.

Right before disappearing over the hill, I see big brother raise his arm and point. Little brother waits while big brother runs to retrieve sled.

Mission accomplished.

Folks, this little scene has been the excitement of my day.

I am in my pajamas for the second straight day.

I'm slowly taking the ornaments off my Christmas tree.

Yes, I do know that it is January 11th.

  1. I LOVE your ornaments! They look antique!

I like your "brothers" sledding story and have to say that the dog is entertaining too, stealing the sled!

We have burrowed in for the night. Expecting A LOT more snow tonight.

  2. You have had more excitement than I have today. Ha... I did shovel the driveway and walk the dog. Love your dog story. He probably thought that was a big frisbee and wanted the boys to play keep away with him. Your ornaments are beautiful. No wonder you don't want to put them away. Promise you will get dressed tomorrow.

  3. What a wonderful little drama that was. I can imagine how proud that dog was to have won his great big frisbee! I'm glad the kidlets were able to retrieve it though.

  7. It sounds like you are living a sedate, cosy life there at the moment Steviewren. And why not when the weather is cold and unpleasant? - Dave

  9. I give them a lot of credit for getting their sled back! The way the weather has been, they may get a few more chances to use it this winter! I just took the ornaments off my tree on Monday. Now I must get that tree out of the house! It is not a pretty sight, it is rather sad. You have a wonderful family, all those grandchildren! You have been blessed! I am a bit of a hoarder, too. It is in my blood as well. This is one trait I hope I do not pass on to my girls.

  10. Oh good I was afraid the dog was nasty .. it was just thinking that's a BIG frisbee and I gotta fetch it.

I would have loved to spend today in my PJs .. alas I was able to get to the office despite the snow.

  12. Oh, I like those kind of days when you stay in your pj's the whole day and only check out what the neighbors are doing.;))
Hope taking the decorations away was not too sentimental.;))

  17. Well, I think, with that snow outside, staying snug and warm in your pajamas is the way to go. Just watch the world unfurl from your window as you're doing!
