Christmas postcard from my aunt and uncle in 1981.
This card was sent to my family from a neighbor when I still lived at home with my parents...so my best guess is that it is from the early to mid 60s. What you can't see is the clear glitter which makes the whole card sparkle.
This one was taken from my mother's stash as well. I've always loved the colorful simplicity of this scene.
Holly Hobbie from the late 80s.
This one is probably circa late 80s or early 90s. I love this gentle, busy Santa.
My parents bought a box of vintage cards at an estate sale and my mother sent each one of us one of these old cards in 1999. It was already yellowing then, now it is more so.

I'm sad that the high price of stamps and cards have influenced many to stop the time honored practice of mailing cards to their friends and family. So tonight, I'm sending all of my PFF and bloggy friends my wishes for a very Merry Christmas with 6 virtual cards!
Wonderful cards... you can see the different decades as you scroll down the blog. PFF TFS!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Steviewren. Often it is all that we do to maintain old friendships. I enjoyed seeing some of your large selection of Christmas cards. You have lots of very charming ones. I also like your new blog header. - Dave
ReplyDeleteCheers to your wonderful paper fetish! It's so wonderful to see your Christmas card memories from over the years! Your Christmas header rocks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards! Absolutely adore them and I am so traditional and I send cards as well, even though you are right about the postage cost.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Friday,
xo

What fun to have all of these old cards. You must have much more room for storage than I. I always wish to keep these cards. I think it is great fun to look back and read the little notes included in cards. Yet, I get that urge to purge when things start oozing into my space. I really think it is a shame to not send cards. A small price to pay for sending a bit of cheer to friends. Happy PFF.
ReplyDeleteCHARMING!
ReplyDeleteI love the first one...with the sweet little Cardinal. We have a lot of Cardinals at The Glen...they are magnificent!
35 years of cards....now that would be so fun to dig through! I'd love to spend time digging in your craft room! I could get lost! LOL! Have you seen Mr. Toast is having a doodle day on Tuesdays. I thought of you. If you need his link, I have it on my sidebar. You are the queen of doodle! :)
ReplyDeleteI have always saved postcards but have kept only a few regular greeting cards.
ReplyDeleteThey are so lovely, it would be hard to choose between them. The Santa, though, is lovely.
ReplyDeleteSuper!
ReplyDeleteAnd your header sketch?? Loving it!
beautiful - i love how you can tell something about the times by the cards.
ReplyDeletethe mailbox one is my favorite.
I for one am glad you have a paper fetish!Pretty choices to share! I still send lots of cards. Attempts to cut my list have been discouraged. Generally a name or two is added each year. Card lists change with time, and this year, like many others saw a few names removed with the passing of loved ones. Thanks for the memories, and Merry Christmas to you Stevie Wren!
ReplyDeleteQuite a history lesson in images! I prefer the last...
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the lovely cards. I haven't saved many at all..I've started writing Christmas poems the last few years and they have mostly gone out email.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! I think it's sad that sending cards during the Holidays seems to be passing. I love looking at the cards I've received. The Santa is one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing these lovely cards. Happy PFF
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas cards, and confess I won't get them out this year. I particularly love ones with pictures of kids/families, as it's great to watch them grow up over the years.
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I were just discussing how few Christmas Cards we send these days. I remember my parents mailing out 100 cards my dad would write them and mail them. I never thought we were well to do and we could still afford to send those cards. My mom and I wrote cards last week and she was saying she couldn't afford to send them, (not true) I'm sending them anyway. Now to do my own, (I make my own as well). Merry Christmas thank s for sharing your lovely cards.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful cards! I hate that not that many people send cards anymore too. There's nothing that can brighten a day more than getting a nice card in the mail!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comment you left me. It is nice to know that people like what I do. I have a seperate set of blogs that I visit and never leave a comment. It would be a full time job, leaving comments on all the blogs I love. I have narrowed it down to a few and I am happy with my little group. I have relatives that like to see what I am making and keep up on what is going on in my little world. They never leave a comment. I try to explain that you all have become my pen pals. I learn a little about things that go on in other parts of the country, different holiday traditions and even just the weather. I am happy to be a blogger! I love vintage cards. I wish I would of saved my Christmas cards. I save way too much as it is. My basement is proof of that.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend.
