About ten years ago when my oldest son and daughter in law lived in Ohio, we made a couple of day visits to Amish country. We toured a Amish home, had some homemade bread, ate at some good family style restaurants and toured a cheese factory. We also meandered along a lot of country roads. The Amish countryside is quite beautiful. One of my favorite sights was lines of their clothing drying in the wind. Another favorite sight were the conical hay stacks. Here in Alabama, farmers roll them into big bales of hay...there they were shaped like the haystacks in Van Gogh paintings.
My daughter recently gave me a few of the postcards she had purchased as souvenirs.

I have always been intruiged by the Amish and would love to experience the community. I can't help but think of Weird Al's Amish Paradise parody too:)
ReplyDeleteDuring all my years in the US I never manged to visit the Amish part. But I always loved the Harrison Ford movie.;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, you are right they feel like paintings. Have a lovely Friday.;)

Gorgeous cards! The simpler way of life does have some appeal. It must be so hard to preserve against the pressures of modern life.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Cheese Chalet.
ReplyDeleteI love going into Amish country here in PA also. The appearance of a simple life intrigues me.
ReplyDeleteOhio Amish country is a couple hours north of me. I went with a couple girlfriends several years ago for a day trip. We did all the fun things you did! Nice day. But the thing we talked and laughed about all the way home was the clothes blowing in the wind on the line....a full line of pretty thong underwear! ha! It looked so out of place...and proved that you never can imagine what they wear under those modest dresses and pinafores! hee!
ReplyDeleteBetsy... the underwear... that is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Ohio we never took the time to visit Amish country. I wish we had.
I would love to visit there
ReplyDeletebeautiful cards
I have traveled all over the world but there are still places in our own country I have missed. Amish country is one of these. Now that my funds are so limited, I need to focus a little more on what is closer to hoome. This sounds beautiful. Thanks for showing me what I need to visit soon.
ReplyDeleteWe have traveled through Amish country off and on. So beautiful . One memory is Shoo Fly Pie. Oh so good
ReplyDeleteHi Stevie
ReplyDeleteTjose are such pretty postcard scenes! You made a nice mosaic of them.
I've always enjoyed my visits to Amish country in PA. We began bringing our children there when they were toddlers, just so they could see a cow and goats and farms - things they missed growing up in a city. I would load up on jars of apple butter to bring home for us to enjoy on morning toast.
The Amish life looks so peaceful, doesn't it?
My dear friend, Kate, lives not far from Amish country and I am hoping to get down there, camera in hand, soon .. love these postcards
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the skies in these postcards. If I could paint, I would want to paint clouds.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I have stopped by this Ohio Amish area. It does look like this! And thank you Stevie wren for visitng my blog.
ReplyDeleteI am totally fascinated with the Amish and am currently reading a book about them. Serendipity.

We have some Amish and Mennonite folk around here--they are fascinating people. Wonderfully hospitable--and the best cooks in the world. (Grin)
ReplyDeleteThese postcards are beautiful. Happy PFF!
Lovely Amish postcards. I so enjoy the quilts, as well. Happy PFF!

ReplyDeleteI have been to Amish Country in PA. it is very similar to your Ohio postcards. I agree it is beautiful there. It would be nice to live in an Amish village for a few days.
