Yuletide Greetings PPF Style

The notation on this faded postcard front is Christmas Eve 1930 ______ Conn.
(for the life of me, I cannot decipher the name of the town) Look closely and you'll see a two story home and the faint outline of a street and sidewalk.

The back of the card is addressed to Mrs. Evelyn Fee who lived in sunny Phoenix, Arizona.

As a bonus, I'm tossing in another of my vintage Christmas cards.

This one has a note inside to my mother's mother and her youngest brother. (I have no idea how I wound up with a card of theirs in my collection) This one is probably from the late 60s or very early 70s as my uncle moved away from home and married in the mid 70s.

"Dear Vera & Don hope you are well I'm doing better lately which I'm so thankful my children will all be here sunday week I'm really looking forward to it sure is good day for me I always have a tree & put the presents under it I know you are busy getting ready for yours best wishes to you and yours Write me sometime Love Mellie Irvin"

(no punctuation was used)

Do you try to write a personal note inside each Christmas card you send? Or do you type up a newsy letter detailing the past year? Or are you doing good to remember to sign each card and put stamps on them before dropping them in the mailbox?

  1. I could only see the house in Conn when I enlarged the photo.... It certainly is hiding. The note to your Mom & Don is hilarious. I mail a letter with highlights of the year... TFS. PFF!

  2. Stevie,
Thanks for sharing these old Christmas cards. What a nice winter scene on the first one. I do good to get the cards signed, sealed, addressed, and mail. :)

  3. In recent years, I've been really remiss in sending out Christmas cards. I do, usually, write a Christmas poem.

  5. Is the city, Durham, Conn? I was just wondering, because this is what I do at 4:30am when I can't sleep. I try to solve puzzles. I am so countdown to the minute with Christmas. I still haven't started shopping. There's still plenty of stuff left in the stores and I just wait and wait. It's like I'm playing some kind of game to see how close to the edge I can go with it. Sick? Yes. I will be off work next week so that's when I'll get it together. I better scoot on and see if anyone else has any hard to read stuff. Maybe it's Durham, maybe not. later

  6. I love vintage cards, I often imagine who held that card and who wrote it.
All of these here are beautiful.
As for the name, could it be not of a city but of the person who took the picture? To me it looks like "Shaun Conn" or "Shawn Conn".
I write each Christmas cards in a personal way, and a different note depending on who it is send to.;)
    Have a great Friday Stevie,
    xo

  7. I like mysteries and researching cards. I looked at a list of Connecticut towns and I think it is "Sharon."

I like to send cards, but I hate to write about myself on them. I haven't sent most of mine yet even though i bought them early.

  8. I love that postcard, I am dreaming of a white Christmas. I hear we may just get one! I live about 10 miles from the Ct. border I have no idea what that town could be. I struggle to get my cards sent out on time. I hope to have them in the mail on Saturday. So, with that said, I simply just sign our names on the inside of the cards. Your family must love coming to your house. You are creating memories that will last a lifetime! I googled the recipe for Cherry Tassies, they do look pretty. They look like a very pretty Christmas cookie.
What is that I hear? Oh, that is the clock ticking....7 days until Christmas! Must go make another list!

  13. Beautiful cards! I used to try to write a note in each card that I sent, but I'm so busy now that I just stick the card in the envelope and mail it. Unless, I only correspond with the person at Christmas, then I make sure to write a note. I wish I had more time these days...I like the handwritten note.

  14. What a wonderful post. I imagine the snowy postcard sent to the lady in Arizona might have been to say, "Hey! It's SNOWING HERE! Neener neener..." Well, maybe not, but it is a lovely post.

I liked the personal touch of your Mom's note within the red Christmas card. Thank you so much for sharing. Happy PFF and Merry Christmas!

  17. I ususally do a few lines to people I don't talk with much. We have received two of those long newsy letters from people we don't see often.

  18. I tend to send handmade cards with a one or two line note. The cards tend to speak for themselves. I find it difficult to find cards in stores that say what I really want them to.

Love your post and the beautiful cards!

  19. Love your post cards. I'm afraid some years I just get my name on it and some years if time allows I get handmade cards done. Not this year.

  21. Outstanding holiday header on your blog!
It was magical to see the house and I'm glad you pointed it out so I didn't miss it. A beautiful scene.
I'm glad there are others out there who wind up the keepers of family memorabilia, some chosen, some unbidden!

  22. Fantastic postcards, Stevie! I wish I had taken care of the postcards, dating back to the 60s-70s, that my Aunt gave me before.

  24. Great cards! We do a *letter* and I usually write a short note -- talk about writers cramp, but it's worth it! I love snail mail and it is only once a year!

  25. I was lucky to get mine in the mail yesterday, especially after the fun grandkids' photo shoot! I do try to write notes to the older recipients on my C.C. list. Everyone else I talk to or email on a regular basis.

That's a lovely card. I have the last one that my mother sent us in 1986. She passed away in '87.
