The Most Important Meal of the Day

I do not like oatmeal.
Cereal rarely appeals to me.
Boiled, scrambled, fried...eggs make me want to gag.
Hashbrowns are fattening.
Sausage and bacon are bad for you.
Yogurt and fruit get boring.
Toast is not very filling.
Pancakes, waffles, grits and biscuits are pure carbohydrate, i.e. calories.
Syrup is diabetes in a bottle.

I like sausage biscuits, waffles, scattered, covered and smothered hashbrowns, cheesy grits and sausage, bacon and cheese toast....in other words, everything bad for you.

What do you do for the most important meal of the day?

  3. I enjoy having breakfast for supper. And I like all the traditional breakfast foods. Here in the South we take breakfast very seriously. :-D

However, my favorite breakfast is leftovers. Dad says I'm weird and I get it from my mother's side. LOL

  4. I learned to eat breakfast when I was pregnant. (oddly enough my baby doesn't skip breakfast either) I've been having oatmeal, or cereal in an attempt to reduce my cholesterol, we'll see if this works on Aug. 4th with my physical. But the real breakfast for me is toast with peanut butter. I cannot function with out it. Eggs and pancakes are only on weekends and they tend to be brunch, just because you know you're eating two meals. Bon Appetit.

  5. I am a cereal eater. Sometimes we have a bagel with peanutbutter and jelly or cream cheese. A big breakfast is eaten only special occasions. Like when we are on vacation. I like to have a waffle with icecream and syrup. I haven't been on vacation in over a year. It shouldn't kill me.

  6. I love a MacIntosh apple, cut into wedges with a dab of peanut butter on each. And lots of coffee.

  7. Hilary, I like apples and peanut butter too...mmmm, thanks for the idea for breakfast for tomorrow.

Lisa, I like bagels, but hate to buy a whole bag because after eating them twice I'm done with that for another couple of months.

Everyone for me eating a big breakfast is too much food in the morning. It makes me sluggish, which is opposite of what you want breakfast to do for you. What I would like to find is the perfect meal, which is not too fattening, filling or boring.

  10. I love breakfast and eat a variety from the foods you mentioned. A high protein brakfast is supposed to be the most filling but that alwasy doesn't work for me. Guess I'll never be thin...lol

  11. While I LOVE breakfast foods, I am not a morning person and don't enjoy cooking right when I get up. But I do make pancakes, waffles and eggs for the kiddos often. The rest of the time they eat cereal or (I'm ashamed to admit it) poptarts and I have a couple cups of coffee:)

  12. I usually just have coffee...the whole pot. Then when I get hungry, I make a trail mix of Cracklin Oat Bran, craisins and peanuts. Sometimes a few chocolate chips in there. If I don't do that, then it's just fruit.

Toast or some kind of carb like that just makes me crave food all day.

We only eat those big yummy bad-for-you breakfasts on Sunday after church. Yum.

  13. I have a boring cereal (Weetabix) that I don't like that much - but it's supposed to be good for me. When I go to Spain on holidays however I have an "Irish Breakfast" - now that's bad - SERIOUSLY bad for my health!

  14. You forgot french toast, which is something you make really well.

And you know me - I LOVE breakfast and can't live without it. While I love the taste of carbs (bring on those pancakes and maple syrup), I can't handle that either in the am w/o it making me crash.

My late pregnancy staple breakfast: two slices of bacon, one slice of wheat toast w/butter, one scrambled egg.

  15. I love all things breakfast...everything!...but I really hate to cook in the morning:)...so I either have breakfast for supper or get someone else to cook for me:)

Usually I end up with fruit and yogurt...

  16. What a great post! I love Irish full breakfast and everything it includes, although on regular bases I eat only toast and drink a cup of coffee for breakfast. That meal should be the most important meal and should be a large one, however I rather eat more in the evening when I can enjoy it.;) So thus I opt for eating less in the morning.;)) Not considered good, but it works for me.;)

  17. Two cups of coffee, maybe a banana. That's it, really, unless I have been taken out for breakfast. Or it's a holiday. One of the two.

  18. breakfast is my favorite meal...but I rarely eat any as I get to running around and doing stuff (especially in the summer) so I forget to eat...BUT yesterday I made a wonderful frittata with my chickies eggs, sauteed onions, potatoes, zucchini and basil all from my garden...the only thing that didn't come from the garden was the Tillamook Cheddar grated on top...it was yummy and healthy! Burp!

  19. I know, I know, you want to feel Ok about eating all that naughty stuff. Here it is: Breakfast of eggs on toast (add fried tomato, bacon, sausage etc to taste) followed by toast and marmalade (acceptable substitute; pancakes and syrup) and milk coffee is my antidote to my light, all-vegetable evening meal, usually a stir fry: a little macadamia oil, but the rest is greens, reds, onion garlic and mushrooms (no rice or noodles)! Oh, I am so good! Well, I do have a glass of Merlot.

  20. I am definitely a breakfast person...I would eat it three times a day, if I could. Mostly I eat nuts and twigs types of cereals, but I love plain lowfat yogurt with fresh fruit, toast and eggs (over medium or scrambled soft) all the carb-o-licious items you listed are tops on my list, too. Mmmmm, biscuits and sausage gravy. Actually, I can live without the meat, I just like the gravy made with the drippings from the fried sausage.

Okay, this is making me hungry...I think I'll have a fried egg sandwich for lunch.

  21. I have oatmeal for breakfast 99% of the time. I just put different things in it. I like to add granola, bananas, raisins, blueberries, cherrios, chocolate chips, maple syrup the possibilities are endless! It is filling and I am addicted to oatmeal. How boring am I?

  22. I lurve grits too! My breakfast is usually lots of coffee and toast with peanut butter. I often make white rice also and then make an egg "over easy style" or poached and eat it over some rice with a little butter. Yummy. My favorite meal is lunch!!!
