Yesterday, I posted some Calvin and Hobbes snowmen cartoons that are always funny and never get old for me. Whenever I think of cartoons, the sound of my oldest son's laughter is the next thing that comes to mind. Daniel was a huge Garfield fan. Every Christmas he received the newest Garfield book. No matter where I was in the house, when I heard him giggling I knew he was reading his books. I loved that sound. I mentioned this to my daughter in law a couple of years ago. She said he still reads Garfield (and shares his love for the curmudgeonly feline with his oldest daughter now) and she said he still giggles out loud when he reads his books.
One of her gifts to him this Christmas was the new Garfield release. I'm thankful some things never change.
At least your kids love the adorable Garfield. My sons have to get out the "Books of Farts" WT gave them one Christmas. I must admit, there is a lot of laughing. Still.
ReplyDeleteI'm very fond of Garfield, myself. I had a stuffed one for 23 years until my youngest threw it over the back fence and into the drainage ditch on a dare. He floated on down to New Orleans. Love the picture, and yes, it is comforting to know some things stay the same. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how I used to laugh up a lung at Garfield! The giggles of your children never get old... My only son is 9, and I wish I could hear him giggle more than he already does. :)

Yes, those Garfield books are very funny! Love the old picture.
ReplyDeleteLove this post. It's a bit bittersweet when their childish giggles turn into restrained manly laughs. I miss those days sometimes. Great photo. :)
ReplyDeleteI am also a 'Calvin and Hobbes' fan. I even have two of his books. It's so good to hear someone even talk about him. Big loss when he quit doing the cartoons.
ReplyDeleteHi, I discovered your blog by accident but I love reading it. I love Calvin and Hobbes too (and The Far Side). I am at that bittersweet point of watching my sons (15 and 18) grow up. feeling nostalgic for their sweet little kid selves I miss so much. Reading your blog reminds me that there is more goodness to come, dear manly sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest loves Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes. He used to love Peanuts, too. I guess you never get too old - he got me a Dilbert book a few years ago, and I laugh myself silly over it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know, I enjoy Garfield too! And remember the Kliban cat (black and white striped with tennis shoes)? I collected those too. Still have one coffee cup with the Kilban on it.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a coincidence but my Funny Friday will be a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. I had picked it out a few days ago 'cause we won't be here tomorrow. Great minds DO think alike! :o) ♥ ∞
Aren't they sweet? Just looked and saw the pic of my 4 cuties, too :-)
ReplyDeleteWe miss you too!
Beth
Beth, I didn't mention it, but this picture of D, B and R really is a good representation of them. B was sporty, R was the little mother and D always had eclectic tastes and hobbies.
ReplyDeleteMiss you all too! It sure is quiet here.
garfield has always been on of my favorites, too. and, you're right. there is such reassurance in knowing some things stay the same!
ReplyDeleteGarfield rocks!! I should dig out the cartoons I drew when I was little and send to you for them! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say that I am a Garfield fan, but no. I was never really into cartoons or the funnies. But it must make you smile every time you see Garfield.

Just found your blog - looks fun!
ReplyDeleteI've not read Garfield, but it sounds good! I love humour, and things that have history too.
Wow, this brought back memories of me, cracking up in my bedroom alone while reading my Garfield comic books! I used to LOL - what a great memory!
ReplyDeleteI would like to thank Melinda, Indie, Ralph and Margarita for being new visitors to my blog. Thank you for your nice comments.
ReplyDeleteLooks at them, so cute! Rachel was a beautiful little girl (she's a beautiful grown up girl too!).
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loved Garfield and later Asterix. My hubby still rereads and rereads Asterix and laughs each time as if its the first reading.
ReplyDeleteYour banner is a masterpiece, Stevie!
I miss Calvin and Hobbs so much...I loved them! My kids were mostly into The Far Side - which I also miss...My paper is repeating old Peanuts comics...they could have been written today - they are timeless...
