Remembering

This is a drawing I made shortly after 9-11 inspired by the images I'd seen on TV and in the newspapers.

Today is the anniversary of 9-11, the first attack on US soil in my living memory. It was a sad sad day. I'm remembering the victims and their families today.

May God bless them all.

It was a very sad day for America and your drawing captures that pain and grief very well, Stevie! I hope that as we remember the innocent lives lost this day we can also promote good deeds and kindness as the lasting legacy of 9-11. Turn the hate into love, in honor those lost.

Your drawing says it all. That's how I remember it too: a confusion of images, comprehension setting in over time.

Who Said It First?

The phrase "little birdie told me so" may find it's origins in this Bible verse. "Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say" (Ecclesiastes 10:20). The earliest form of the saying was included in John Heywood's collection of proverbs (1546). In 1583, Brian Melbancke wrote in 'Philotimus'" 'I had a little bird, that brought me newes of it.' In 1711, in 'Letter to Stella,' Jonathan Swift came close to the current version: 'I heard a little bird say so.'
