- It is not growing like a tree
in bulk doth make man better be;
Or standing long an oak, three hundred year,
To fall a log at last, dry, bald, and sere,
A lily of a day
is fairer in May
Although it fall and die that night,
It was the plant of flower and light,
In small proportions we just beauties see;
And in short measures, life may perfect be. - Benjamin Johnson
Small pleasures:
a hug
a smile
a piece of chocolate
an afternoon at the movies
Friday afternoons
a fresh salad with good Ranch or Bleu Cheese dressing
bare feet in the grass
birds chirping

small pleasures, and you and i both have one of those! nearly 4 weeks old and sooo cute. wish our one would take a dummy. hugs.
ReplyDeleteI love everything you list as small pleasures, as indeed they are what makes us happy.
ReplyDeleteI would add also bare feet on a sandy beach and a cup of fresh brewed coffee with that chocolate.;))
By the way, my real name means White Lily.;)Therefore I love lilies.;)
Lovely thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSmall pleasures are lovely, the spice of life. {And, there is that orange and white tablecloth again!}
ReplyDeleteModGirl, I wish it was a table cloth. It was a piece of scrapbook paper that I put down for contrast. Scrapbook paper comes in the most delicious patterns. I can't go into a store without buying some paper. Therefore, I have drawers of it. In fact, I have to restrict my visits to the scrapbook store because of my lack of control! hehe
ReplyDeleteI love the little well-worn and loved trinkets you chose for this! And barefoot in the grass sounds so wonderful right now! (maybe in May I'll do that).
ReplyDeleteAaaay myyyy... I remember this thimble;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely Surprise more than being a great post, Steph carissima! So true, I agree w/ you that happiness is made up of those tiny successes '+ small pleasures. Made my Wednesday after so sweet heart Cindi's post. Love you both from the heart.
Hugs from sunshiny City to yours.
Take care.
Love those lovely intangibles!
ReplyDeleteI have a weakness for miniatures, too. Why are tiny detailed things so alluring? Your thimble is wonderful!
Willow, Nihal sent the thimble to me. I think it's wonderful too. Thanks Nihal!
ReplyDeleteThe Rochefoucauld quote is so very true. And I love your list of pleasures. I would add the sound of a big dog eating a carrot. Priceless.
ReplyDeleteWonderful list of small pleasures Stevie! I add sleeping late :-)
