it's starting to accumulate!
it's a wet snow, so the kiddies will have fun making snow men today

It's been over 10 years since it snowed this much in Alabama.
************************************************************************
As usual in Alabama, snow doesn't last long. It has been about 2 1/2 hours since it stopped snowing. The sun is out now and it is melting fast.
I went out to get my paper and couldn't resist making this little guy.
It's melting fast!
A number of you commented that it seems strange for it to be snowing in March in Alabama....not so. Our biggest snow in my memory was March 12-13 1993. That event is affectionately known as the Blizzard of 93. We had accumulations of a foot to a foot and a half. That is a freakin lot of snow for Alabama. The temperature stayed in the low 20s and teens for days. Snow was slow to melt. There were widespread electrical outages. We only lost power here for a few hours. My brother lost it for days. His family moved in with us until they had heat again. I remember doing a lot of washing and a lot of cooking that week.
Another time it snowed on April Fool's Day. Just a little joke from Mother Nature I suppose.
Anyway, it will probably all be gone by tomorrow. So long white stuff. It was nice to see ya again!

How unusual; you in the south have snow while we here in Scandinavia have blooming spring flowers.;)
ReplyDeleteBut, with that said, winter is truly over here first in April, so we are not out of the woods yet.
Here is hoping for spring to arrive real soon.;))
Snow and Cacti on the window ledge, lovely. About the same amount early this morning in New York, but it's gone already.
ReplyDeletethe whole world is upside down weather-wise. how old is your little grandbaby? aaaawwww we are so lucky to be able to love them for real, so many people see their grandchildren only over skype. hugs for sunday. i am maggie sitting tomorrow as my dil is going for her 6 week check up.
ReplyDeleteI heard you were getting Snow! We had it Dec.11th and it stayed long enough to be enjoyed. My sister in Memphis got 8 inches, have not heard from Baby girl in Nashville yet but I'm betting the same for them!
ReplyDeleteYa'll enjoy!
We're enjoying our snow, too!! Isn't it beautiful?!
ReplyDeleteHappy Snow Day, Stevie!! I adore snow. Unusual for you to have so much, while we are sunny and dry as a bone up here.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it!!
Wow! Snow in Alabama? You must be ready for spring about now.
ReplyDeleteBright sunny day here, with snow melting. How strange that you're getting snow there!
ReplyDeleteWow, unbelievable. Didn't you have your forsythia blooming last week? Very odd. Of course this is common in my neck of the woods but down your way I would have thought you were almost at flip flop weather...
ReplyDeleteLavinia, weather flip flops here all the time!
ReplyDeleteI remember well the Blizzard of 93. I was in Tuscaloosa at the University - my parents live north of T-town, out in the country and we lost power for a solid week, if not a little longer. Thankfully, we had a wood stove to heat the house, but I had to go into the Student Rec Center to take showers before classes.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see it's not that bad this time around - snow is beautiful when it doesn't cause too much trouble!
Snow is very pretty when it's snowing but horrible to drive in. Be careful going to work tomorrow. We'll be thinking of ya. It's just blustery and overcast here. Just plain yucky. ♥ ∞
ReplyDeleteIt's coming up here next Stevie! The weather man keeps screaming 10 inches to a foot of snow! oh oh!
ReplyDeleteLove the tiny snowman! Yes, it is beautiful and it's only right that you southerners get to enjoy a few hours of it, too! :)
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! It's so nice you stopped to make a snowman. The little guy looks pleased with himself. It's very cold and windy here today! Rain going in to church, sun coming out and then clouds and wind for the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteSnow!!!!!!! What? I have to call my Dad right away! He lives in Foley:)I wonder if he is experiencing the cold white stuff too!
ReplyDeleteWHoo hooo, SNowDay. It sure is pretty. I would rather have snow than the darned cold temps we have been having. We often get a March snow too. It doesn't last long though.
ReplyDeletewonderful photos!!! and i like your cactus garden!!!
ReplyDeleteWell it sure is nice to see the snow where it can be appreciated at this late point in the winter. Lovely shots. You sure have a wonderful view outside of your windows.
ReplyDeleteComing down from Wisconsin, I was so glad to arrive in Atlanta two days ago and see that there was NO snow!!! It was sixty today, and I'm glad to be away from the winter doldrums!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
