These guys were some of my favorite Saturday morning companions when I was growing up. Remember waking up early? Making your own bowl of cereal? Watching cartoons until noon?
The Flintstones
Rocky and Bullwinkle...Boris and Natasha
Popeye and his spinach
The Jetsons
Mighty Mouse
Yogi Bear and Boo Boo
I know it's a cliche, but folks they don't make 'em like they used to.
It is not cliche, it is true.;) As I grew up in the East Bloc, I was not familiar with any of these until later in my teens when moving to Sweden. When I was a kid, there was no TV on Saturday mornings. All the cartoons were send in the evenings and they were either Russian or Czech, but they were really good. Even my Irishman remembers watching "The Mole" as a kid, a Czech animation that was exported abroad.;)
ReplyDeleteGreat post!

So true!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I loved cartoon day. Then American Band Stand came on. My Sister is older so I was indoctrinated with her music. :)
ReplyDeleteI certainly do remember watching Saturday morning cartoons with my brothers.
ReplyDeletedenise
i miss them...and i could quote almost any bugs bunny cartoon
ReplyDeleteThey were wonderful. I loved Huckleberry Hound and my favourite as a child was Pixie & Dixie and Mr. Jinx. Oh and Ruff and Reddy.. and Quickdraw McGraw.. and I could go on. Thanks for the blast from the past. :)
ReplyDeleteSuper Friends and Loony Toons - those were my faves on Saturday morning.
ReplyDeleteand I can't think of a single animated anything nowadays that's worth watching - except for some of the Pixar stuff!
Saturday morning and cartoons...my favorite time of the week when I was growing up and I watched all the same ones you did. This is embarassing but I wanted to marry Mighty Mouse when I was 5 yrs old:)
ReplyDeletei watched and remember each and every one of these! it mekes me miss my brother and the simpler times to think about saturday morning cartoons.
ReplyDeleteStevie! HERE! HERE! I could NOT agree with you more! My children just found a channel on our cable that has THESE cartoons! I cannot tell you HOW THRILLED I am to listen/watch them again!
ReplyDeleteJust hearing Fred POUND on the front door of his stone house yelling, "WILLLLLLLLMAAAAAAA!" Makes me smile!!
What a fun reminder of the wonderful old days
ReplyDeleteI loved them all, too, Stevie! Remember Deputy Dwag? Tom and Jerry and Heckle and Jeckle? I also loved comic books...Little Dot, Casper the Ghost, Archie, Sluggo. Fun memories!
ReplyDeleteYep...remember them all...and especially with fond memories the getting up early part with cereal of one's own! :)
ReplyDeleteTom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, et al always have me rolling around with laughter, but the new style of computer generated cartoons (with adult jokes thrown in) are not in the same league at all as far as I am concerned(or am I just too old?)
ReplyDeleteOh the memories! I watched every one of these cartoons AND the New Zoo Review with Freddy the Frog, Henrietta Hippo, etc. I totally agree our era was the best, most cartoons today are garbage!
ReplyDeleteThose are my favourite cartoons when I was young.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, I grew up watching a few of those cartoons, how could I forgot?! There is nothing like to be a kid. Wonderful nostalgic post, Steph.
