Photoshop Play Date

A couple of weeks ago, I went on an around-town photo shoot. I'd been itching to take some pictures of Vulcan, the big cast iron man that stands atop Red Mountain, but the sun was not my friend that day. The pictures left something (better lighting) to be desired.

So I played in Photoshop instead. I kind of like the outcome.

I think the dramatic effects reinforce the iron man's reputation as god of the fire.

Last night, I drove home by the light of a beautiful full moon. I tried once again to take a picture of the night sky. My camera is just not powerful enough...so using one of the almost totally black photos I played in Photoshop until it looked like this:

At Wal-Mart yesterday I braved funny stares from the elderly greeter to take pictures of the gumball machine at the entrance. This picture has a slight fuzzy filter added to it to soften the edges.

Bubblegum anyone?

  1. I don't have Photoshop as yet but I can see it's fun to use.
You made the vulcan statue look so dramatic..nice effects, and also on the bright moon we had this weekend.

    I'd love some bubblegum! :-)

  2. LOVE the second picture, it is indeed very dramatic and illustrates well the subject.;)
I know what you mean about not having strong enough camera for taking pictures of the moon, it bothers me too. But I think your picture turned out very well.;)
    I love Photoshop too.;)

  3. The great delight of photoshop is to take a shot that did not quite make it for whatever reason and then r=to creatively resurrect it in a new form. Your shots are a perfect example of how creative this process can be.

  5. Great photos - I think the top one is fantastic. I would love to be this creative with my photos but being a tad technophobic I don't have Photoshop and have no idea where to access it! Any info and tips would be gratefully received.

  7. I'll take a gumball, I favor yellow. Thank you. Love what you did with Vulcan. The second picture makes me want to put my head under the covers or run for my life! I'm too tired to run right now! Love the hats! You have the cutest grandkids! I'm sure they enjoy your time together.
Thanks for the words of encouragement on my painting.

  12. I too lurve the second photo! It looks like a still from a movie! This would make a great choice for doing that abstract story thing that Willow hosts. It would be interesting to see what the different writers can come up with!
