The Black Dress

I found this postcard at a local shop recently.

The Black Dress, 1960 by Alex Katz

As Coco Chanel said, "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." and "Fashion fades, only style remains the same."

I've never thought of myself as being particularly stylish. (I do try)

How about you?

  1. I think of you as classy and fabulous! You have style and seem to have such a zest for life. I'm watching PR and I can't remember if I told you Anthony works downstairs from our office. I hope he does better than last week.

  2. I'm fabulous -yes, stylish -no...lol I wore a uniform practically my whole life. Now I wear jeans and sneakers or sandlas most of the time. I never really had a "little black dress"..but i do have the pearls!

  3. What an interesting postcard. I guess every woman has some sort of a black dress.;)
Fabulous and stylish comes from within.;) Some women can wear a potato sack and make it look dashing.;)

I am sure you have your own appealing style as you are an artist.;) I think I am original, not necessary stylish.;)

    Have a great Friday!;)

  4. I'm a dud when it comes to fashion... I'm a jeans and converse kind of girl.. I can pretend fairly well when I go out in Paris for the evening... But any spiffy dresses that I have were all picked out and accessorized by a swanky salesgirl!

  6. I think I realised my lack of style years ago! But the card is wonderful - all those identikit but stylish women in their little black dresses.

  7. I remember when a little black dress was considered important. It probably still is to some extent, though you don't hear people talking about it much now.

  9. I used to have a fab "little black dress". It was vintage before they were terming it that. I just got it at a second-hand shop.
It was black crepe with a black lacy bodice over peach satin, sleeveless and also rather short and it had a big crepe bow at the breastbone. I loved it! It made me feel sexy, like an old movie star.
    Wish I had it now.
I think I'm going to have find myself another one. Thanks, Stevie!

  13. I'm not very stylish which is why I have a couple little black dresses! (They're no brainers.) I always thought they were kind of boring and safe but they are my old standby go-to outfit. If I want to try to be stylish, I'll wear heels :-)

    This is a fab postcard!

    Have a great weekend.

  16. Over the past few years I have developed a style of my own! What I mean by that is, I buy what looks good on me. I like jeans, no I love them! I dress them up with a cute top or sweater, add a little jewelry and I am ready to go! I do own a little black dress.

Yep, every woman should have one. I do!

  18. OH...I like to think I am in "style" but I really like what I LIKE...so simply wear it! I prefer second hand as I think it is more interesting AND cost effective!!

    LOVE the "little black dress."

  19. What a great little postcard! Every women should have an LBD. I don't follow trends as such but I've found a style that suits me. Friends say earrings and scarves are my signature and I have to say I feel under-dressed without them!

  20. i've never thought of myself as stylish and know that i'm not. i am 100% ok with that. if i didn't have to go into the office every day i would most surely live in stretchy knit pants, jeans and pajamas. a girl can dream and one day my dream will come true. hee hee

i really like the painting on the postcard. it draws me in and has me looking to see all the very small differences between the one (??) woman in the black dress.
