He's In Town

As I drove up to the stop light, I noticed Santa sitting beside the soda fountain shop looking a little bored.

But not for long.

Someone else had the same thought as me. Santa needed some children to have his picture made with. This mom provided hers.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list,
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

O! You better watch out!
You better not cry.
Better not pout, I'm telling you why.
Santa Claus is coming to town.
Santa Claus is coming to town.

"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. It was first sung on Eddie Cantor's radio show in November 1934, becoming an instant hit with orders for 100,000 copies of sheet music the next day and over 400,000 copies sold by Christmas.

A Christmas classic was born.

  1. Nice...I wonder how many children have been photographed with that Santa...and I wonder how much money Mr. Coots and Gillespie made on that song!!!

  2. It won't be long and Santa won't be bored at all. He will be flying around delivering toys to good girls and boys. Fun photo.

  3. stevie, I think Santa has a crush on you! Where ever you go, there he is!

  4. What a cute Santa! My kiddos have been singing this song all month long, too:)

  5. oooh i love that song, but silent night is my all time favourite! got your drawing yesterday, love it...tee hee. will show it on blog soon. thanx special friend. xx

  6. That's a cute Santa. I'm disappointed that there's no shot of you on his lap.

  7. I agree with Hilary.;)
Although the girl in the picture seems to have a lot of fun.;)
I hope Santa will stop by your house later next week.;)
Have a great Sunday and thank you for your always wonderful and kind comments. Today I posted a series of pictures that you might like.;)

  8. Very cute Santa!

I'm wondering if Mr. Coots or Mr. Gillespie were inspired to write that song by watching their children (or others) misbehave during the holiday season. It sure has worked to make many generations of children toe the line, at least momentarily anyway!

  9. Wow, thanks for the history on the song. That was amazing for back in the 30s. And you pictures: Great! Thanks for sharing! Stevie, I'm 64 today...yikes!

  13. That has to be one of the greatest Christmas songs ever.
I also love 'Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas' - so much so that I only have to hear the first line and the tears well up - sentimental fool that I am!
Glad to hear that you like little bird pendant - but of course birdies ARE your thing!
