Did you hear about this?

Mattel recently released the Totally Stylin' Tattoos Barbie. The doll comes with 40 tattoo stickers that your child can place on Barbie's body.

I mean seriously folks, is this how we want our little girls to believe a 50 year old woman wants celebrate her mid-century birthday? Or am I 'Totally Out Of Touch Gramma?'

OHMYGOSH, what has the world come to?

  1. Growing up in the former east block, Barbie did not have such an impact on me, as it was not available to purchase, when I was a little girl.;)
Thinking back, we had very simple toys then, and the best ones were the ones we made ourselves. At times I think children today would benefit from using their own imagination a bit more then the one that the commercialism forces upon them, such as Barbie tattoos.;)

  2. My sister's and I weren't allowed to have a Barbie because she had boobs....I seriously doubt if the tatoos would have helped the situation! ha-ha!

  3. She looks just as great at fifty as she did at her premier. Lucky girl!

Not being able to have a Barbie, when they were the rage, and all the other mothers were making wonderful Barbie wardrobes for their daughters, was difficult, I must admit. I was definitely considered the freak when I showed up to play, completely Barbie-less.

Tatoos? Well, can't say I like them, but two of my three kids sport one.

  4. No. I dislike tattoo on my body but I could like any smallest tatto on my ankle.

  5. I have a green Koi fish (I'm a Pisces) on the inner part of my upper left biceps that I got in 1980 at a tattoo parlor on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. I love the story and still love the ink that has now faded, but then it's not in a place where it shows all the time. I'd like to get another one some day but I can't decide where or what. I'm considering a butterfly, perhaps on the other arm. Maybe. For my next birthday, I just had one last week, when I turn 60.

  6. I'm not a fan of tattoos myself, but both my children have a few small ones...sigh. My husband had long hair in the late 60's, and lots of concurrent fights with his Dad over that. I guess every generation wants something that makes them unique. At lesst hair can be cut, but tattoos are more or less for life!

  7. A friend of mine got a tatoo for her 50th birthday. You just never know who has one. I always wanted one but I don't like pain so it is out for me. I never liked Barbie in the first place. I don't care what she does.

  9. I can't say that I agree with Barbie having tatoos either. But I know little girls love the rub on tatoos. The times they are a changing.

  10. Well, it looks like I am 'Totally Out of Touch Gramma.' I don't have problems with people who have tattoos. I think the point I was trying to make was is getting a tattoo an appropriate model of play for our children?

  11. Well I was looking for something relatively mild but wild to celebrate my 50th birthday - and went and got a tattoo...with my kids and husband looking on!...now it seems everyone has one but it was a big deal 8 yrs ago lol! So Barbie is just copying me I guess:)

  12. I was older than Barbie when I got my first tattoo! I suppose I wouldn't think anything of Barbie having tattoos - only because stick-on tattoo's and temperary tats have been on the market for children for years. But I know where you're coming from!
