Say What?

L'Oreal's newest mascara, Voluminous Million Lashes, smells like my dead grandmother's dusting powder. Yeah, for real.

It took me a couple of days to figure out where the smell was coming from.  I began to suspect the mascara yesterday and confirmed it today when I applied my makeup.

I don't know what I think about wearing smelly mascara, even though the odor does go away after a little while. One thing I know for sure...if they are going to put a scent in make up, it for sure shouldn't remind you of something so old.  Sorry Grandmother.

Just sayin.....

  1. Really? Mascara with a scent? And you can smell it even though it's above your nose? That must be a really strong smell.

I once had a blush that smelled like old talc. Couldn't stand it.

Why not contact L'Oreal and see what they have to say about it. They might want to know about it. I did that with the blush, and ended up with a generous coupon instead.

  2. I can't stand all the scents we get bombarded with every day...the only make up I wear...which is pretty darn rare these unscented. Even the Dove soap and deodorant I use is unscented...

  3. This made me laugh!;) I admit that actually mascaras do have a strange scent, but luckily that never reminded me of anything.;))
I am very sensitive to scents and fragrances and they are very important to me, so I understand your frustration.;))

  4. Wow. That's a new one. *heads off to sniff mascara*

  5. Isn't it amazing the way scent can take us back.
    Your new Grandcat is cute.

  6. Mascara can be irritating on the eyes and in my opinion putting a fragrance to it can only worsen the application of it if a person has sensitive eyes. I won't be purchasing their smelly stuff anytime soon.

  7. Ummm .. now I am curious and must check this out .. love the grand cat

  8. This reminds me of my mom, bless her heart. She was such a fine lady! Thanks for the reminiscence! Have a great day! :) The Bach

  9. I read the first couple of sentences on my side bar and was CRACKING up! I recognize that powder tin! My grandmother (now 97) HAS ONE on the back of her toilet in her bath!!!! The crazy thing probably STILL has powder IN IT from YEARS and YEARS ago!!
    SOOOOOOOO funny!

  10. Really enjoying your blog. And this post was too funny....a post about funky mascara is just what I needed (too much heavy reading today for some reason). Thanks for the boost!

  11. Avon lipstick, at least used to, smell terrible.... Like mothballs! Strange, huh?

Here's hoping your face smells pretty today!

  12. Your son's new kitty is cuuuuuute! ha ha

Every time I see COTY face powder at the store, it takes me down memory lane. ha ha

I'm glad you stopped by and I look forward to your comments. As Dr. Fraser Crane would say, "Hello, I'm listening."
