Random Thoughts on a Sunday Evening

You think too much!
I have been told more than once that I think too much. I was incredulous the first time I was told this...can a person think too much? It seems to me that the world is filled with people that don't think enough.

But, I'm beginning to agree with that opinion. I do think too much. I waste hours and hours of valuable time in dreamy non-productive thought each weekend. Beginning on Thursday I make plans for the weekend. Productive, art and activity filled plans. But the weekend arrives and I sleep late. I peruse the books and magazines I don't have time to read during the week. I saunter from room to room puttering aimlessly, never finishing most tasks. I watch my Netflix rentals. I sit and play on the internet too much. Before I know it...well here I is Sunday evening and I haven't done much of anything AGAIN! Will I ever be able to change? I'll think about it.

I did do something productive yesterday. All because I have stupid feet, wide and flat. I spent my lunch hour Friday trying on every pair of shoes in a large shoe store. Nada. I went out again yesterday. Desperate, I guess. I did find a pair of flip flops and pair of brown sandals that I can wear for work or casual. Only time will tell if they are comfortable or not since it is easy to be fooled when you only walk up and down the aisle a couple of times at the store.

new flip flops

Does anyone need abut 10 pairs of perfectly nice shoes that hurt my feet?

I try not to go off too much on the weekends (it cuts into my thinking time). Since I have to drive about 55 miles round trip each day to work and back, I like the idea that there are 2 days a week when I don't have to feed my gas tank. Does anyone remember when gas cost this much? Sad to be nostalgic about gas that costs $3.08 isn't it?

I did a little doodling last night and came up with these two pictures. I scanned a sketch and added color in Photoshop. I really like playing with a drawing that way. It's a type of creative serendipity. You never know what you're gonna wind up with.

and another version:

I have been summoned for jury duty this week. I've never done it before so it should be interesting. I am looking forward to seeing new people, maybe hearing some new stories, being downtown. I'll take some pictures and get some reading done too. I hear that I might spend a couple of days waiting to be called for a trial. Oh well, I guess I'll get some more thinking done.

Happy week friends!

  1. Steviewren, great post. Covered alot. You know what...your weekends sound alot like mine! It's so seductive to wake at leisure and spend time at leisure doing not much of anything at all...after a long work week.

Jury duty: I am jealous. I have always wanted to be on a jury..(hopefully watching a charismatic Gregory Peck look-a-like defense attorney take command of the courtroo!)

I hope you have an interesting case in the courtroom.

Your artwork, as usual, is wonderful. Hey! Good news...I got the frame for the picture of the birdbath lady you drew. It's really nice...I'm going to try to find the time this week to put the picture in and hang it. I had meant to do it this weekend...but there you go...too much time spent to room..reading..nibbling on snacks...

Steviewren, don't feel guilty about not accomplishing a zillion things on the weekend...its just our bodies telling us to slow down...and value that really is valuable, our minds need a rest too.!

  2. Do your feet hurt more than they did a few years ago? No one told me this would happen, too, in the wonderful world of aging. I must have 20 pair of cute, stylish shoes that I never wear because they hurt my feet! Last month, I also tryed on every pair of shoes in DSW and ended up walking out with nothing. I have an old pair of slouchy, camel colored suede mules that I wear all year round. They are begining to look vile, but they feel ever so nice.

Jury duty sounds exciting. Keep us posted.

  3. Funny! Obviously you know that daydreamy thinking with your feet up is the perfect weekend ambition. Most of us feel we just have to work all weekend, too, to compensate for working too hard during the week. Me, I'm thinking the proportions are wrong -- instead, we should think all week and work only on weekends when the weather is nice.

  4. I have found that if I make a list of things I want to do I seem to get more done. My mind wanders, alot. I could be doing the dishes and decide that a chair should be painted or that the furniture needs to be rearranged. Clothes are left unfloded because the front porch needs to be swept. I think if it is on paper and I can scratch if off it actually gets done. Love seeing pictures of Alabama. I will post some pictures of Rhode Island soon.

  5. Love the drawings. I actually use Photoshop almost everyday for the design I do. Ahhh.the life of a designer. Actually, it's lots of deadlines and all about finding that right balance of good design and meeting the client's needs and timeframes..which are very quick when doing mainly email and web work.

"I peruse the books and magazines I don't have time to read during the week. "--Ah, but do you ever get around to reading them? I find i do the same thing and they just sit there being only briefly scanned every now and then!

  6. I love hearing about your weekends, in person or on your blog. I know you wish you could get a lot more done on the weekends, but honestly, it sounds like you are getting a lot of needed R&R that I wish I could soak up!

I'm glad you stopped by and I look forward to your comments. As Dr. Fraser Crane would say, "Hello, I'm listening."
